Who I am
My name is Antonin Ricou and I am a graphic designer specialized in the editorial design and typography through identity and images. By addressing political and social dimensions, graphic design has allowed me to understand how form and message contribute to giving meaning and value through visual communication. Being directly interested in scientific innovation and social sciences, I see design and the diversity of its media as a means of questioning and translating the transformations of the world in which we live.

Idea
My fascination with how images shape our understanding of the world led me to explore The Golden Record and Wikipedia as examples of visual and curated representations of reality. These interests have stayed with me, and I continually try to incorporate this perspective into my work.

Process
I started this project with a sketch based on Tim’s idea of zooming into the pixels of an image. I liked how a mosaic could bring together different images under a shared theme and create new meaning. This led me to curate nature images from Wikipedia, treating it like a modern time capsule that documents Earth and its incredible species. I began exploring how to best use zooming as a way to highlight the planet’s beauty and diversity.

Process
I ended up focusing on the idea of zooming into an image to reveal its details, inspired by old paintings where so much is hidden within scenes of daily life. I chose three categories : humans (hands), animals (species), and objects (still life) so the user can navigate through past and explore life as it was represented in art, one detail at a time.

A favorite piece of code
In this present work I have been exploring the processing filter to edit my gallery of images. The Posterize filter which was giving an interesting effect.
