Do you accept works that involve AI in the process?
Yes, we don’t reject GIFs made with AI. How you use it in your process is entirely up to you. That said, it helps to know where 128KB comes from. The project is inspired by the demoscene and permacomputing, two cultures that treat code as a craft and constraint as a source of invention. At its heart, 128KB is an invitation to slow down: to write things by hand, to experiment, to struggle a little, and to discover what emerges along the way. A GIF generated almost entirely by AI skips that part of the journey, which is what this platform is really about. Some creators, like Elisa Bernhard, make AI itself the subject of their work, and that kind of critical exploration fits right in. So feel free to use AI, but we encourage you to ask yourself what role it plays in your work, and what you might gain by doing more of it yourself.
